Arias II

History of Arias II

Arias II plant administrative concession was first granted in 1915. For many years the maximum flow was of 10 m3/s, but since 1979 that maximum flow volume is 40 m3/s.

The plant still houses a 700 KVA Alternator and turbine, manufactured in 1905. It is out of service but is being kept for reasons of historical interest.

Power plant facilities

  • One CHARMILLES brand KAPLAN type turbine, with a power of 5,425 KW, speed of 176.5 rpm, a head of 15.24 m and flow volume of 40 m3/sec
  • One WESTINGHOUSE Alternator, model FR-34-162 ½. x 26, with a power of 7,500 KVA, speed of 176.5 rpm, voltage of 6,600 ± 5% V., 657 A., 3 phases and 50 Hz

Location

The Arias II Plant is situated in the county of Somontano de Barbastro in Huesca, only 10 kilometres away from Barbastro and 100 from France
